Meet ALICE

ALICE

Who is ALICE? It stands for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed; and is a measure of financial hardship among working individuals and families. Anyone can be ALICE, whether it is a relative, a neighbor, your healthcare provider, the cashier who checks you out at the grocery store, or even yourself.

The ALICE metric provides a more accurate picture of financial hardship by taking into account the cost of basic needs such as housing, food, child care, health care, and transportation. Those considered ALICE are employed and earn just above the Federal Poverty Line yet not enough to make ends meet.

Making Tough Choices

The Making Tough Choices simulator is an educational tool that helps individuals understand the challenges faced by ALICE households. It is designed to raise awareness about the financial difficulties faced by ALICE households and encourage individuals to take action to support this growing community. The simulator presents users with a series of financial decisions that ALICE households often face, such as whether to pay for a car repair or buy groceries. Through this interactive experience, users can see how difficult it can be to make ends meet when faced with limited resources and tough choices.
