Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program 

Due to recently released federal guidelines avoiding the gathering of no more than 10 persons to reduce The spread of COVID-19, WE must close the VITA site.

The Greater Longview United Way in partnership with the Internal Revenue Service assists low income families with free preparation of their income tax returns through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program helps local residents who earn less than about $60,000 a year to access credits for which they are eligible, including the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC).

The VITA program utilizes IRS trained community volunteers to provide this free service to local residents. English and Spanish speaking volunteers are available.

For over ten years, Greater Longview United Way has provided free tax preparation. VITA volunteers assisted 995 families prepare and e-file their 2018 income tax returns. This program helped families take advantage of the tax credits they are eligible for including the Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, and Education Credit. The total amount of the returns brought back into the community added up to $1,179,547.

2020 Free Tax Preparation Information

Thank you for your interest in Greater Longview United Way's free income tax assistance service.  Due to guidelines of local, state and national goverment as well as recommendations of the Center for Disease Control, the VITA site at Broughton is closed for the tax season.  We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience. The new tax filing date is now July 15, 2020. Please stayed tuned to see the VITA site reopen date.
