VITA-Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program

The Greater Longview United Way in partnership with the Internal Revenue Service assists low income families with free preparation of their income tax returns through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program helps local residents who earn less than about $60,000 a year to access credits for which they are eligible, including the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC).

The VITA program utilizes IRS trained community volunteers to provide this free service to local residents. English and Spanish speaking volunteers are available.

For over ten years, Greater Longview United Way has provided free tax preparation. VITA volunteers assisted 821 families prepare and e-file their 2019 income tax returns. This program helped families take advantage of the tax credits they are eligible for including the Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, and Education Credit. The total amount of the returns brought back into the community added up to over one million dollars.
